Turakina School hosted its big day for parents and friends with Pet Day and a Wearable Arts Fashion Show yesterday.
In teams of three, the senior students had designed and made elaborate costumes, which one of them paraded on an outdoor catwalk.
As models showed their creations, classmates on themicrophone gave a rundown on how they had constructed their garb. The audience loved it and cheered and clapped while smaller members of the school, sitting alongside the catwalk, alternated from giggles to screaming and clapping loudly.
And the models played to the crowd - twirling, sliding, waving and flashing big grins.
Tethered across the field were 11 lambs and five calves, munching quietly before their big parade.
Principal Delwyn Brogden said the annual Pet Day was always well supported: "We're just a small country school, and we do really well."
The Wearable Arts Competition was won by the Environment team of Brylie Pidwell, Axion Pene-Ferguson and Jason Myers. Second was the Nature team, Mataara Gardiner, Ezekiel Anderson and Josiah Maraku.
The junior lamb event was won by Lucy Pearce, and the senior lamb by Sophie Redmayne. The junior calf was won by Matt Pearce (Lucy's twin) and the senior calf winner was Hamish Burgess.
