Person found dead in tent following fire

A person has been found dead in a tent near Marton following a fire.

Whanganui Fire Service area commander Bernie Rush could not say whether the person was male or female but said the deceased was found in a tent on Hawkestone Rd, Marton, at 10.35am today following a fire.

Police and fire investigators have entered the site and a police cordon was put in place.
