Person dies following car and truck collision on State Highway 1 near Marton

A person has died after a crash between a car and a truck on State Highway 1 near Marton on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called about 9.45pm.

Police said one person died at the scene.

Hato Hone St John said a person in a serious condition was taken to Whanganui Hospital and another in a moderate condition was assessed and treated at the scene.

Fire and Emergency NZ sent crews from Marton and Whanganui while Hato Hone responded with a rapid response vehicle, first response unit, two ambulances and an operations manager.

Police said the Serious Crash Unit had examined the scene and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.
