A person with serious injuries was airlifted to Whanganui Hospital after a motorbike crash on State Highway 4 at Kākātahi north of Whanganui.

A police spokesman said they responded to a single-motorbike crash on SH4 near Aotea Rd about 1pm on Thursday.

“The road would have been blocked for a period of time.”

Hato Hone St John said a rapid response unit and a helicopter responded.

“One patient in a serious condition was airlifted to Whanganui Base Hospital.”

Fire and Emergency NZ shift manager Belinda Beets said two fire crews from Raetihi and two from Ohakune were sent after “a motorcyclist had come off his bike”.

“We basically just assisted with traffic and a helicopter landing site for the ambulance.”

Beets said fire crews left the scene by 2.30pm.
