Martin Pennefather batting for United. He took his first three wickets for New Zealand in the Over 50's match in Nelson today.

Property Brokers United's veteran spinner Martin Pennefather picked up an important three wicket bag for the New Zealand Over 50's side as they bowled their Australian counterparts out for 151 in Nelson today.

Playing the first 50-over match of a three game series at the Marsden Rec in Stoke, the more experienced Australian team was looking solid at 99-3, with batsman Peter Solway having brought up a 50.

However, Pennefather was introduced to send down some off-spinners, and he removed Solway's partner Gordon McGurk, trapped leg before for 17.

Now on a roll, Pennefather got the dangerman Solway through a stumping by wicketkeeper Mason Robinson, and then had another successful LBW call on Steve Brodribb for 2.

Collapsing to 120-7 and then 136-9, Australia got a late blast from tailender Paul Stenhouse with 26 not out.

Pennefather's figures were a very respectful 3-22 from his ten overs, while Andrew Nuttall got wickets in the top and lower order to finish with 4-15.

In reply, New Zealand had a rough start at 13-2 after eight overs, with openers Graeme Inglis and Andrew Spence, of the Central ITM Marton Saracens 2nd XI, out for low scores.
