Whanganui’s Cobham Bridge is set for overnight closures to allow for resurfacing work by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.

The bridge, on State Highway 3, will be closed from 7pm and 6am on the nights of February 23 and 24.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said the resealing was to ensure a safe, reliable, resilient state highway network.

The bridge was last resealed in 2015.

The work needs to be completed under a road closure, due to the width of the bridge and guard rail, NZTA said.

NZTA has a regular programme of maintenance for all state highways and its bridges.

Detours for light vehicles will be in place during the closure hours, with delays to travel time.

Northbound road users must detour via Pūtiki Drive, the Whanganui City Bridge, Taupō Quay and on to Heads Rd.

For southbound travellers, the detour will be reversed.

Heavy vehicles will be stopped and cleared every 30 minutes.

Work is expected to be complete by 6am on February 25.

The work is weather-dependent and may be postponed at short notice.

The work to complete pavement rehabilitation repairs on State Highway 4 in Raetihi has been delayed because of bad weather.

The work, which started on January 6, was originally expected to be completed by January 28.

There is currently no estimated completion date for these works yet.

There is ongoing stop/go traffic management and various speed restrictions and temporary lane shifts for road maintenance works on State Highway 4 Waimarino, near the Carroll St intersection.

This work started on February 11 and is estimated to be completed by April 10.

Ongoing resurfacing work on State Highway 49 Waiōuru to Ohakune is nearing completion, which is set for February 28.

Stop/go traffic management is in place Monday to Friday from 6.30am-6.30pm, with a 30km/h speed restriction.

The works are weather-dependent and may be postponed or extended at short notice.

NZTA asked motorists to drive to the conditions and be careful when driving through these areas.
