Over 750m to run for over $11k at Hatrick

The Kiwi bred staying canine athletes takes center stage at Hatrick this evening with the running of the $11,455 New Zealand Racing Series Distance (NZRS) final over the demanding 755m trip in Race 9.

NZRS races is an initiative introduced by Greyhound Racing NZ which rewards the Breeders of New Zealand-bred greyhounds.

Half of the stake money on offer in all NZRS finals is allocated to the breeders of the placed greyhounds.

It is an interesting blend of long distance chasing talent who will contest this event, which includes a number of visiting Canterbury trained stayers.

From a local perspective it is the Palmerston North based and Bill Hodgson-prepared Nitehawk Rose who has sound looking winning claims.

She is proven over the extreme racing distances, as seen by her win and minor placing in her two previous races over 755m.

She endured a luckless recent outing when she contested a Group 2 747m final at Cambridge.

Looming as her biggest danger is Translator, from the Dave and Jean Fahey kennels.

She is also a proven stayer, having stylishly won the recent Christchurch hosted version of this NZRS Distance series over the Addington 732m trip.

Her kennelmate Opawa Timo brings sound Addington 645m form north with him. He is likely to be sighted racing handy to the pace throughout here.

Robin Wales will be looking for his charge Opawa Racer to go one better than his January head second in the Cambridge-hosted 747m final of this series.

Foxton conditioner Marcie Flipp will be rapt that her railing stayer Pacific Sunrise has been allocated the one trap to hop away from.

She has previously placed over 755m.

The classy greyhound Bigtime Paddy is seeking back-to-back 520m wins when he lines up in this evenings feature open class 520m event (Race 10) for his trainer Lisa Cole.

The dual Group 1 winning greyhound worked hard to secure his 30.15s win last Friday after jumping from the tricky five trap.

He has to contend with the same trap again this evening.

A recent run of unsuitable wide draws finally comes to end for the smart Angela Turnwald trained Nature's Gent here.

He is likely to relish being loaded away into trap two here from where the current NZ Cup title holder can give deliver a strong race from.

Cole provides all of the other runners in this race. Looming as place prospects includes Spare Some Time, Bigtime Zack and Bigtime Tears.
