Ready for customers are (from left) Whanganui Venues and Events team leader Rachel O'Connor, venue and events co-ordinator Kirsty Melville and ticketing and tour co-ordinator Shirna Matthews.

In a bid to make access easier for customers, the Royal Wanganui Opera House box office has moved to the annex at the rear of the building.

Whanganui Venues and Events team leader Rachel O'Connor says the new office can be reached by people in a wheelchair or with other accessibility issues. Off-street parking, including a disability park, is available.

"We know that some people have struggled to use the [former] box office because of the steps leading up to the foyer," Ms O'Connor said.

"This space not only solves those issues but also is lighter and warmer for staff."

The new workspace has taken the building's heritage into consideration, with Victorian-style wallpaper, black velvet reception chairs and two chandeliers.

The box office hours are 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.

The ticket office in the Opera House foyer will be open for sales and ticket collection during show nights and as part of the theatre's behind-the-scenes tours.
