One person is dead after a car crashed into the back of a truck and caught fire on Tayforth Road.

Police cordoned off Tayforth Road this morning where the accident happened.

Wanganui Fire senior station officer Gary Wilson confirmed the driver of the car was dead.

He said the driver of the truck was "all right".

Whanganui Police are investigating the crash.
