Continuing with its 50th Anniversary Celebrity Series, Chamber Music Wanganui is hosting a concert by Wellington-based jazz trio 'Ol King Cole.

The group will perform a selection of popular Nat King Cole tunes at the Royal Wanganui Opera House next week in the manner of the original Nat King Cole Trio.

Numbers such as I'm a Shy Guy, Route 66, Honeysuckle Rose and I'm gonna sit right down and write myself a letter will make up the evening's entertainment.

Ol' King Cole was born out of a love of the great music of Nat King Cole's early drum-less trio which was active 1943-1950.

Performing the tunes of the great trio and other artists of the era, Ol' King Cole is led by Wellington-based pianist and vocalist Louis Thompson-Munn.

Award-winning jazz guitarist Callum Allardice joins him alongside Sydney-based double bassist Tom Botting.

The trio is said to be "formidable" combining excellent musicianship with humour and banter.

Their performance recreates a time where there was no iPod, no Spotify, just musicians in a room making sweet sounds for other humans.
