“NZDF is complying with all relevant legislative requirements and government policy that apply once Crown property is no longer required for a public purpose.”
In total, the Government plans to invest up to $600 million in the Homes for Families programme through its 2025 Defence Capability Plan.
The combined value of the Bulls properties would be determined through the sale process, NZDF said.
They were “surplus to the NZDF requirements”.
Last October, the Chronicle reported the NZDF had begun building five new homes in Bulls for RNZAF Base Ōhakea personnel, part of the Government’s largest Defence housing project in decades.
Bulls is about 3km from Ōhakea.
At the time, Associate Defence Minister and Building and Construction Minister Chris Penk said some NZDF homes dated from the 1930s and were poorly laid out and insulated after decades of under-investment.
“Too many homes across New Zealand Defence Force camps and bases no longer meet the standards we expect for our servicemen and women.”
