Supervalue Gonville owner Roland Van der Wal welcomes shoppers to his new Wanganui supermarket which opens today in Abbott St.
"We built the shop from the floor up in five weeks and had to postpone our May 9 opening date. It has been a phenomenal undertaking, and a major investment to
bring the Signature and Basics ranges to the Gonville and Castlecliff suburbs," Mr Van der Wal said.
Whanganui kaumatua John Maihi blessed the new supermarket early Monday morning to open the way for the business to begin trading.
The supermarket opened today at 7am and would be open for business seven days a week.
Supervalue is part of Progressive Enterprises which includes Woolworths, Foodtown, Countdown and Wholesale Distributors which trades as Supervalue and Fresh Choice.
Gonville New World previously traded from the site and was part of the Foodstuffs (Wellington) Co-operative Society.
