New operators for Taihape pool

Swimming lessons for Rangitikei 4-year-olds will extend to Taihape as West End Aquatics (WEA) take over the running of the Taihape Swim Centre.

The Rangitikei District Council has awarded the contract to run the Taihape facility to WEA, the same company which took over the council-owned Marton Swim Centre five years ago.

The Taihape pool has been run by the Taihape Community Development Trust.

West End Aquatics' Trevor Nicholls said he wanted to employ staff for the swim centre locally.

Two years ago Mr Nicholls got sponsorship from Gallaghers to provide a programme for 4-year-olds to learn to swim at the Marton Pool, which will now be extend to the Taihape Pool.

The Taihape Pool filtration and heating systems have been undergoing upgrades over the past few months and painting of the small pools is due to start.

A confirmation of the opening date will be provided as soon as it is known.
