Turakina horseman Kevin Myers and his gallopers have once again dominated the annual Wanganui Jockey Club Awards for the 2013-14 season.
Myers again won the leading trainer award on the back of his 77 wins last season which placed him second on the national premiership behind Lisa Latta. Myers haswon every leading trainer title since the awards' inception in 2000/01. He also claimed the Tom Corrigan Trophy for leading jumps trainer with 25 victories.
In the meantime, one of his stable stars Scapolo won the Wanganui Horse of the Year and Sprinter/Miler of the Year awards on the strength of his win the Gr2 Couplands Bakeries Mile and the Listed Great Easter Stakes. Myers' talented Spring Cheer nabbed the Stayer of the Year prize after winning the Gr2 New Zealand Cup, while Sea King dominated the Jumper of the Year category withe victory in the Great Northern Hurdle, the Sydenham Hurdle, the Dunstan Feeds Waikato Hurdle and the Hawkes Bay Hurdle.
Mathew Gillies, a regular rider of Myers' jumpers, won the Leading Jumps Jockey title and the national premiership with 14 wins.
Wanganui jockey Jonathan Parkes easily won the Leading Jockey title with 118 wins that also placed him second on the national premiership behind Matt Cameron. Parkes' winners earned $1.7 million in stakes.
Wayne Marshment's mare O'Fille won the Weight-for-Age Performer of the Year on the back of her second in the Gr2 Zabeel Classic and third in the Gr2 Cal Isuzu Stakes.
Alistair Murdoch won the Most Successful Breeder category. His grand jumper Rangatira won the Great Northen Steeplechase in extraordinary fashion. He subsequently won the Wellington Steeplechase.
Three-year-old of the Year went to Dan O'Leary's gifted galloper Red King, who won three races last season.
Two-year-old of the Year went to Mettre En Jeu juvenile The Jeuneyman from the Stephen Crutchley/Nicole Marshall stable.
His best performance in a limited campaign was second behind subsequent Karaka Millions winner Vespa. Longtime racing stalwart Janice Webster was a popular winner of the Stuart Tasker Memorial Personality of the Year award.
