Museum seeks to fill vacancies

Whanganui Regional Museum is calling for nominations for two vacancies on its governing body.

The vacancies were created through the recent resignations of Adam Kerse and Felicity Priest.

Administrator Kathryn Stevenson said the vacancies were on the civic house of the museum governing joint council. The joint council is made up of two houses: the Tikanga Māori House, representing the region's iwi and the civic house, selected by an electoral college made up of the museum's communities of interest.

"The joint council is responsible for leading the museum's overarching direction and for safeguarding the institution's financial and cultural sustainability for future generations," Ms Stevenson said.

Nominations close on September 23.

Ms Stevenson said applicants should have "a passion for telling the stories of and protecting the region's heritage. Skills are sought in key governance areas, including funds development, law, planning and procurement".

She said membership of the council provides an opportunity to be part of the team guiding the museum's redevelopment project, which begins later this month.
