The Whanganui Girls' College Student Council has gathered to find a solution to an issue repeatedly brought up ... how to find a place for the new Year 9s to hang out at breaks.
This may not seem like an important issue in the grand scheme of education, but the council
felt it was vital to help our new students settle in faster in order to assist them getting into the swing of schooling.
After much thought and discussion, the 18 girls on the council decided to buy new seating in various spots around school. Our principal, Mrs King, agreed to match whatever we could fundraise, so we decided on a fun and fantastic Movie Night Gala on April 7, open to everyone in Whanganui. There will be food stalls, including barbecues, baking, sweet stuff, popcorn and more.
The event is family friendly, with three movies during the earlier screening and two after sunset. One of the evening movies will be outdoors (weather permitting). If the weather turns, we do have a large indoor space we can all use instead. Tickets for the event are $10 for the whole evening. A family of four will get a discount to $35, and a single movie ticket will cost $6.
Doors open at 4pm with indoor screenings of Wizard of Oz, Sixth Sense and Jungle Book at 4.30pm in the gym, hall and performing arts studio. From 6.30pm, we'll show Hercules in the performing arts studio, and for our older visitors The Breakfast Club will be screened outdoors. Food stalls will have delicious things for sale throughout the evening. So please, come down to Whanganui Girls' College on April 7 for a fun evening of movie watching for the whole family. Tickets also available from school reception.
