Wanganui Motorcycle Club junior Isaac Ashworth sealed a podium spot at the TSS Red Baron-sponsored New Zealand Mini Motorcross Nationals at the revamped Kapi Mana mini track in the Hutt Valley over the weekend.
Eight-year-old Ashworth finished second in the 6-8-year 50cc MX class, eight points adrift of the eventual winner. Ashworth managed his runner-up podium spot with a 3rd, 5th and 2nd on day one and a win in the last round.
Young Leah Bullock was next best of the Whanganui riders with a fourth in the 6-8-year 50cc Intro Trail class.
Riders from all over the country competed in five races over the two days, with some classes having qualifying races prior to the competition beginning.
The Wanganui Motorcycle Club was well represented at the event with Finn Lennox (25th) and Matthew Bell (28th) competing in the 9-11-year 65cc grade, Michael Bell (13th) in the 7-8-year 65cc, and team rookie 5-year-old Tanner Manson (9th) in the 4-5-year Intro Trail c lass.
Wellington turned on near-perfect conditions for the event and the Whanganui team came away with some impressive results.
Eight-year-old Isaac Ashworth was just 8 points off the eventual winner of the 50cc MX class, with 3rd, 5th and 2nd on day one and a 3rd and a win in the last round to seal a spot on the podium.
