Lachie McDonald

Lachie McDonald

Marton's Lachie McDonald had an excellent three days play to finish third at the Carrus Open at the Tauranga Golf Club on Sunday.

In the finale of the Jennian Homes Charles Tour, McDonald shot rounds of 67 65 65 68 to finish 15 under par with 265.

He tied with Waikato's runnerup Dongwoo Kang and was just one shot behind Masterton's winner Kerry Mountcastle.

McDonald, Mountcastle and fourth-placed Tauranga local Mark Brown were playing partners for the final round.

Brown slipped out of contention throughout the day, while McDonald would rue a bogey on the final hole.
