Marton property tempts Aussie buyers

Property sales in Marton over the past few weeks have astonished real estate staff at Property Brokers.

David McDougall said on Friday five properties in the district were all sold on the one day by the company.

"It was amazing. None of us could quite believe it."

And to add to that a lease on a commercial building in town looks to be going ahead too, he said.

The market had been very quiet lately.

But the real surprise was that all the buyers had come from outside the district.

"Buyers from Australia who said they wanted a bit of cooler weather for a while. So they're going to live here six months and six months over there. We had buyers from Papamoa, Wanganui, Auckland and Wellington."

But Mr McDougall reckons property is a cyclic thing, every seven years.

"Last time was 2007 and things were good, now it's 2014, seven years later. That's how it goes."

Even though Marton got a bad rap at times, the town was very central, near to major centres, had fantastic schools, no traffic lights and offered a good community, he said.

"And there some fine properties here. People outside the area are hearing about it and coming here to see it."
