In true blue style, the Splash Centre staff went all out for Wanganui's kids recently, at the same time supporting the Prostate Cancer Foundation's Blue September national awareness campaign.
"Manic Mayhem" parties are a regular Friday night event at the Splash Centre now, but each month brings an extra-special Manic Mayhem
party with a theme. This month's theme was "Blue September". The mood was far from blue though - with special blue lanterns and decorations, lighting effects, music, games and spot prizes all creating a festive atmosphere.
At just $5 entry per child, the Manic Mayhem party is a great way to kick start the weekend for kids and younger teenagers aged 8-14 years, from 6-8pm.
The event was supported by community group Te Punanga Haumaru, which supplied the sausage sizzle and some spot prizes. Led by the Ministry of Social Development, Te Punanga Haumaru promotes the "Be A Star" anti-bullying campaign, supporting community initiatives to prevent bullying of children and young people aged 0-19 years.
Even "the boys in blue" made an appearance - Sergeant Craig Yorston and Constable Rob Conder from NZ Police were there to help cook sausages on the barbecue and join in the fun.
The Manic Mayhem parties are gaining momentum and Splash Centre facility manager, Dave Campbell is pleased with the growing numbers.
"Manic Mayhem is a great event for those kids who come along, and do what kids love best - hang out with their mates and have fun in a safe environment."
