Whanganui District Court.

Whanganui District Court.

A Whanganui man has been sent to prison after breaching his protection order while on home detention and assaulting his former partner.

Shane Abraham Manuel was convicted of three male assaults female charges back in early June and was placed on home detention for five months.

Less than two months later Manuel struck again.

On Tuesday Judge Philip Crayton sentenced Manuel to six months' imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a further male assaults female charge and a breach of a protection order with the victim.

The NZ Police summary of facts said the couple had an on/off relationship for five years but on Wednesday June 28, 2017 the victim decided to end the relationship.

"The victim went to Manuel's address on Wednesday 28 June, 2017 to ask if she could borrow his van to move out some of her furniture."

After Manuel became agitated and began yelling the victim tried to turn and leave the address.

"[Manuel] grabbed her with both of his hands on the top of her arms and held her in a tight grip. As a result the victim could not break free.

"He pushed the victim backwards until she fell back on to the couch," the NZ Police summary of facts said.

Manuel threatened the victim and said: "If you think a piece of paper or this s**t on my ankle is going to stop me then think again ... I'll f**king get you."

He erupted further telling her she wasn't going to leave in the pants she was wearing.

He grabbed the victim's pants from her waist line and ripped a large hole in them and told her to "f**k off".

The victim was left with tenderness to her arm and a large hole in her pants.

Manuel told the police he wanted to tell them the full story but not until he sought legal advice properly. He stated he didn't want to incriminate himself.
