The man charged with murdering Miriama Raukawa following a central Whanganui stabbing in January can now be named.

He is Jarrod Arnold Dent.

Raukawa died and five others were injured following knife attacks allegedly carried out by Dent on January 22.

Dent, 36, had his first appearance in the High Court at Whanganui on Thursday morning where his interim name suppression ceased.

No mention was made of a psychiatric report that was ordered by Judge Chris Sygrove when Dent appeared in the Whanganui District Court on January 23.

Dent was not required to enter pleas to murder or five charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm as he has new counsel in Elizabeth Hall.

Despite this, Justice Jill Mallon, appearing via audio visual link, said a trial date had been set for May 4 2020.

Dent was remanded in custody and his next court appearance will be a case review hearing on July 4.
