She married Laurence Edmonds and the couple had three sons, who all still live in Wanganui. The couple owned Edmonds Motors, at the bottom of Durie Hill, which is now Keown Honda.
Mrs Edmonds said she had "more grandchildren and great-children than I can remember".
"I have at least one great-great-grandchild as well."
She has received cards from Prime Minister John Key and the Queen, but can't quite get her head around turning 100.
"It does seem a bit unreal. I'm still able to enjoy my life, that's the main thing."
Mrs Edmonds believes she's lived to such a ripe old age because she's always been healthy.
"I haven't really had a day of sickness in my life."
Springvale Manor threw her a party yesterday and she is going to the Brick House for a family lunch tomorrow.
One of her sons, Graeme, described her as "an inspiration".
As for the Titanic, she said she was not aware she was born the same day as the famous shipwreck. "Someone told me that recently, and I had no idea."
