Some of Capri Baxter-Henriksen's toys will shortly find new homes with disadvantaged children in Samoa - thanks to a post on Facebook.

Capri's mother Tara Baxter recently asked her 8-year-old daughter to tidy her room.

"She pulled out a lot of toys that she thought she didn't need and she asked me what she should do with them," Ms Baxter said.

"I said, 'What would you like to do with them?' and she said, 'I'd like to give them to somebody else if it would make them happy'."

She put up post on a popular Wanganui Facebook group, saying that her daughter wanted to give away some of her toys.

A number of people responded, but the response which immediately appealed to Capri was one from Nicole Moana.

Ms Moana is heading to Samoa in July to spend some time at a shelter for disadvantaged children.

"I thought if Nicole took the toys, lots of different kids would have them, rather than just one," Capri said.

"I like most of the toys, but I don't really need them."

Ms Moana will spend two weeks at the shelter, which is for children who are orphans, have been abandoned, or are disabled.

"I thought that if this girl is giving away her toys, I'd like to take them to Samoa. These are children who have nothing," said Ms Moana.
