Accolades to the staff in the Emergency Department at Whanganui Hospital.

Recently I had an admission to Whanganui Hospital on an emergency basis. I would like to express my thanks to all of the staff involved with my care, which was professional and respectful.

I felt humbled by the fact that the level of care was not dependent on my having medical insurance or being wealthy.

If the staff in Whanganui's emergency department are representative of out hospitals throughout New Zealand, then I believe our hospitals are on the right track employing well-trained, caring people.

Poor standards

To say I was disappointed in our Prime Minister's entry in Prince Philip's Book of Remembrance is putting it nicely.

Could she not have taken a little more care with her handwriting? Some letters are barely there and some not there at all.

The standard of neatness would not have got past any teacher that I remember. I think the message looks as if it was hurriedly dashed off.

She hasn't even considered it worthy of her time to sign her whole name, instead of simply scrawling her initials.

As a New Zealander, I am ashamed that our PM considers this standard acceptable for the first page in our country's Official Remembrance Book.

Jacinda, I suggest you rip out the page and try again.

Otherwise, I shudder to think what the Queen will make of it.

We're not made of money

I read in the Chronicle (April 3) that Horizons are to put our rates up 8 per cent. Do you think us ratepayers are made of money? Some of us aren't.

On another matter, why are we [putting money aside for] iwi consultation?

That's a bit over the top. Maybe, Horizons, you should have a look at your policies. Maybe Les Wright (letters, April 3), are you creating more empires?
