Q West Boatbuilders director Myles Fothergill talks to a South Korean delegation about the marine industry in Whanganui.

A delegation from Namdong Gu district in South Korea have been in Whanganui exploring a potential sister city relationship.

While here on Friday the delegation visited the council, Q West boatbuilders, the New Zealand International Commercial Pilot Academy and New Zealand Glassworks.

Mr McDouall said council was reviewing it's sister city strategy and that the nature of sister cities was changing.

"It's the start of a process. This is not speed dating," Whanganui mayor Hamish McDouall said.

"The days of these being a cultural exercise are long gone. Really, there needs to be a mutual benefit and particularly and economic benefit."

He said Namdong Gu was a port district of Incheon.

"So there's quite a bit of potential there for cross-pollination. Also it's a city which is quite proud of it's aged care."
