Cowboy hats and blue jeans were the order of the day at Kai Iwi School's annual pet day.
The theme was country, and students, staff and parents got into the spirit, donning blue jeans, cowboy hats and plaid shirts for the day.
The children showed off the line dance routines they had been learning. This was followed by parents and teachers being dragged up to join the senior students in a line dance routine to the song Cotton-Eyed Joe.
Principal Ross Harvey said the morning had been devoted to more traditional pet day activities such as stalls, raffles, animal competitions (which included lambs, calves, dogs and even a lizard) and a young farmer competition.
"The kids competed in heaps of different activities such as tug o' war, hammering a nail, putting up a fence, milking on the milking machine and putting a gate together," Mr Harvey said.
