The East Coast Judo Championships in Gisborne at the weekend proved a solid warm-up for Wanganui player Antoine Rahier ahead of an international event in Auckland next month.
Competing out of the Wanganui City College Judo Club, Rahier won gold in the junior men's under-60kg division and silver in the
senior men's under-66kg grade.
Coach Garry Davies said the East Coast tournament was a great final hitout for his younger fighter as a lead up to the Oceania Championships.
Fellow club mate Finn Brown also claimed gold when competing the junior men's under-66kg division and silver in the cadet men's under-66kg, while Liam Goodhall returned home with two silvers and a bronze in the cadet men's over-81kg, junior men's under-90kg and cadet men's open respectively. Jack Kinchilla also posted a top podium finish winning gold in the junior men's under-73kg grade.
Meanwhile, Wanganui Judo Club member Aiden Voice performed well to win gold in the cadet men's over-81kg and cadet men's open grades. Silver was his lot in the junior men's open and bronze in the junior men's under-90kg division.
