Investigation into cause of fire after Quick Ave, Whanganui, property significantly damaged

Fire investigators are determining the cause of a fire at a Quick Ave house on Wednesday.

The cause of a fire that significantly damaged an Aramoho house is under investigation.

Fire and Emergency Whanganui crews were called to the Quick Ave property just after 8pm on Wednesday, June 27.

Station officer Jason Hamlin said the house was "fully involved" when they arrived.

"The home owner was home at the time and managed to move her vehicle and a few items and was then unable to get back into the house," Hamlin said.

Three fire trucks attended the blaze with the last of the crews returning to the station about 1am on Thursday.

Hamlin said that due to the damage it was not clear whether the home had working smoke alarms.

"Working smoke alarms is something we're really trying to push at the moment," he said.

A fire investigator was at the property on Thursday to determine the cause of the fire.

The Quick Ave property received significant damage.

It was the second house fire in Whanganui in two days. A fire at a Putiki Dr house on Tuesday was contained to two rooms after smoke alarms alerted a neighbour and fire crews arrived in time to stop it spreading. The fire was not suspicious but the cause has not yet been confirmed by fire investigators, Hamlin said.
