A humble little Humber 80 won the day, but a host of vintage and classic vehicles performed splendidly at the Queen's Birthday Wanganui Vintage Car Club Rally.

"Ken and Annette Foot were the overall winners in their 1958 Humber 80," club captain Frank James said.

"We were so lucky with the weather and were back at the clubrooms well before the rain came down."

Drivers assembled from 9am at the Wanganui Racecourse on Sunday to learn where their wheels would take them before heading off on a route that took them to the north of Hunterville.

"We headed to Otiwhiti Station, which is now a land-based training site, and came back through the back roads of Marton and Turakina Valley," James said.

"A couple of those who were registered weren't able to make it, but we had 48 vehicles in the rally and everyone had a great time."

The prizegiving dinner was held at the Grand Hotel on Sunday.

The next big event on the Wanganui Vintage Car Club calendar is the Daffodil Rally for cancer scheduled for Sunday, August 22.
