Twenty-five years make for a record-breaking ride of service. For the past 24 years Woodville Lions Club has staged a motorcycle ride to raise funds for the Manawatu-Wanganui Rescue Helicopter service. Known all over as 'The Suzuki Coast to Coast' this ride, has become very well established; iconic, even.
This yearthe ride will take place on Saturday, December 9.
Departing from Himatangi Beach on the West Coast, riders travel through the Manawatu to Woodville, where they all become part of a large village Santa Parade. All participants stop for refreshments and a free lunch at Fountaine Square in Woodville before journeying out on the superb scenic run to Akitio on the East Coast; a total run of some 200km.
With past record numbers of riders exceeding 500, from all parts of New Zealand and overseas, this year's organising team are confident of again delivering a substantial boost in aid of the region's life-saving rescue chopper team.
All proceeds from the ride go to the Manawatu-Wanganui Rescue Helicopter service. In the ride's 24-year history its has gifted over $180,000, helping our rescue helicopter become one of the best equipped life-saving air ambulance operations in the country; one that has provided the decisive survival factor for many road users.
