The latest act in the friendly but fierce competitions between Wanganui Collegiate's six houses was drama.
All students take part in the inter-house competitions throughout the year which include swimming, athletics, music and Tikanga Maori.
For the inter-house drama competition, each Year 13 house leader chooses, auditions, rehearses and performs a dramatic piece.
The majority of the performances are student run with only minor help from drama teacher Jennifer Gregg.
The guidelines are that the play or film script developed has to have been a play or novel.
This year the theme was "rebellion" to start with but morphed into "expressing yourself " after discussions between the students.
The pieces chosen were Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Breakfast Club, Mean Girls, Avenue Q, a play called The Gonnabes and New Zealand play Niu Sila.
Dress rehearsals began on March 14 and the final competition on Friday.
The adjudicator Kerry Girdwood will make awards for the best technical design, best actor, best director and best overall performance.
The awards are hotly contested every year said school spokesperson Lindsey Robinson.
Results will run next week.
