There is more than just the winning stake on the line for the sharp sprinter Run Lacey Run at the Hatrick Raceway this evening.

The Paul Freeman and Angela Turnwald-prepared sprinter will start as a warm favourite to win the $8,000 New Zealand Racing Series Sprint (NZRS) final over 305m (Race 9, 8.15pm).

Six cut-throat heats were held last Friday to determine this final field.

Run Lacey Run was easily the quickest from those 305m dashes, completing her assignment in an extremely tidy 17.37 seconds.

By comparison, four of the other heats resulted in times that were remarkably close ranging from 17.57s to 17.59s, or in other words just a nose margin.

Her claims were further strengthened when Run Lacey Run was allocated the ace-trap to be loaded away into.

She is a one-trap specialist, as can be seen by her ten wins from 14 races when sighted wearing the red racing vest.

All NZRS races, which are held on a regular basis throughout the country, provide bonus payments to the breeders of the greyhounds who place in each final.

Half of the stake-money on offer is reserved for the breeders of those placed chasers.

Therefore, Freeman and Turnwald are chasing the breeders bonuses attached to this final, being the breeders of Run Lacey Run.

She is a winner of 19 races this season, including the Group 2 Dash For Cash, held in December at this venue, and started yesterday's racing leading the points-based 2013-14 New Zealand Bred Greyhound of the Year category.

Races like NZRS finals are regarded as national feature events and along with Group races they carry additional bonus points for greyhounds who finish in the first three placings.

Run Lacey Run goes into tonight's assignment sitting on 110 points for this section.

There are two other greyhounds who can snatch the lead away from her and both of them raced on Thursday.

Really Clever started yesterday with 105 points and he raced for a possible six points in his $11,000 NZRS Advanced final at Cambridge.

Blitzing Mayhem was engaged in last night's $13,000 Group 2 NZ St Leger final at Addington.

He started that race sitting on 107 points and there was nine points on offer for him if he won, while bonus points are also available for the minor placings.

The tight nature if this category means that whatever the outcome is in these three races, this section will still have a fair bit to play out over the remaining two weeks of the current racing season.

Note, the NZ Bred Greyhound of the Year section is separate from the overall 2013-14 NZ Greyhound of the Year title.
