It's happened again at Castlecliff Golf Club.

The reputation of being a fun course to play can only increase as, for the third time in a month, a hole-in-one has been struck.

And again it was the short fourth hole - a 130m par 3 - and life member Neil Campbell had the magic swing with a "lazy five iron" during the Queen's Birthday Ambrose tournament yesterday.

"It's an easy hole. Us old fellas can get there no trouble," said the 76-year-old at the clubrooms yesterday.

Castlecliff secretary Gordon Keelty said he was able to hear the whoops from where he was playing on the seventh hole.

Campbell's shot bounced on the green and then plopped in.

"I didn't see it bounce, but everyone told me," he said.

"It's an easy game now when that happens."

It is the second ace for Campbell in 20-odd years, the previous being around five years ago on Castlecliff's ninth hole. "It's always good," he said, when asked which was more memorable.

His name will go on the honours board at the club again.

It is the sixth hole-in-one in the wider Wanganui region in 2015 and the fourth at Castlecliff.

Those Castlecliff aces this year have been Waitotara's Francis Hill (fourth hole) in February, followed in May by club captain Grant Clark (also fourth), veteran Geoff Russell (13th), and now Campbell.
