Wanganui man Daniel Harding has put together a charity concert featuring Ardijah to raise money for the Christchurch Earthquake appeal.
The Give a Little, Give a Lot concert will take place in Majestic Square from 10am to 1pm tomorrow.
Mr Harding said Ardijah was performing at the Avoca Hotel in Upokongaro on Saturday evening, and he managed to get hold of them through his contacts. Last year, Ardijah were awarded the Manukau Institute of Technology Lifetime Achievement Award, for their contribution to New Zealand music over their 30-year career.
They describe their sound as "poly fonk", a blending of traditional Pacific rhythms, voice, ukulele and island drums.
Mr Harding will also feature in the concert under his stage moniker, DC, performing songs from a wide range of genres.
A collection would be taken during the concert, and donations over $5 would go into the draw to win a double pass to Ardijah's concert at the Avoca Hotel, Mr Harding said. Ardijah would be drawing the winning name at the end of their set, which starts at 12.15pm, so people needed to get their donations in before then to be in to win.
Mr Harding said he decided to put on the concert because he had been performing in charity events and using music to help people most of his life. "It's what I do. I try to help out where I can."
He said he named the concert Give a Little, Give a Lot because he knew there were people out there who did not have that much to give, and he did not want them to be discouraged, as every bit added up. All proceeds will go to the Wanganui District Council's earthquake relief fund.
