Cliff Dental will give 35 Whanganui people a chance to get free work done on their teeth during one day in September.

It's part of a nationwide free dental day being run by Southern Cross Health Trust and the Dental Association. It is expected to benefit 925 low-income adults throughout the country. Only people with Community Services cards are eligible.

Whanganui's free dental day is on Thursday, September 20 and people will get a free 30 minutes of care by dentist Hadleigh Reid.

All of the available appointments in Whanganui were taken within about two weeks.

The Dental Association said the programme was not just about pain relief but they will offer at least one kind of dental care.

That includes fillings, extractions, x-rays or scale and polish.

Reid said the free dental day gives Cliff Dental another chance to provide care to those in need.

"Cliff Dental was designed and set up as a community clinic, one that offers affordable dentistry to those in need.
