Four children were taken to Whanganui Hospital after a crash on private land up the Whanganui River.

Emergency crews were alerted to the crash at Kaiwhaiki just before 4pm on Tuesday. Police said it involved a farm vehicle.

A helicopter was dispatched to the address, taking two of the children in a serious condition to Whanganui Hospital.

Two others, in a moderate condition, were taken by ambulance to Whanganui Hospital.

All are in the childrens ward in a stable condition, with one of them going to the theatre ward tomorrow, said a DHB spokeswoman.
