A Whanganui resident was named Flight Centre's top travel broker at the national awards ceremony on Saturday in Auckland.

Each year, Flight Centre NZ celebrates the success of its people with a national awards night attended by more than 1500 employees and their partners from across the country.

Cameron McGowan took home top honours on the evening, winning the coveted Top Travel Broker Retail title, one of the top 10 awards presented on the night. He also won Most Improved Travel Broker Retail.

Mr McGowan was thrilled with the win.

"I'm passionate about travel and love coming to work and sharing that with my customers every day. It's great for that passion to be recognised and to have won such a prestigious award."

Flight Centre NZ general manager retail Sue Matson said the award is testament to Mr McGowan's dedication to excellent customer service.

"I was so proud to present this award to Cameron on the evening.

"It's a real credit to his ability to inspire his customers and build long-term relationships, he really does go above and beyond," Ms Matson said.

Mr McGowan has been in the travel industry for 34 years and has worked for Flight Centre for 14 years.
