A higher-than-expected enrolment for Wanganui Ucol's Quay School of the Arts courses has resulted in less than a handful of places for members of the public wanting to do modules on a part-time basis.
Last week Head of the Quay School of the Arts, Myra McIntyre, announced a limited number of
part-time places would be available in seven classes ? a first for Wanganui Ucol.
However yesterday she said an unexpected increase in students, including those taking Fashion School and glass courses, meant many of the anticipated part-time places had been axed.
"The explosion of students has been wonderful, if hectic. It shows there is a general movement towards arts education, that there is a very lively movement, especially in Wanganui, toward art design.
"That students are coming here from elsewhere reflects well on the reputation of the Quay School of Arts and its staff. The school is regarded by external moderators as being equal if not better in some areas to the top art schools in the country," Ms McIntyre said.
She noted there were two places available for members of the public in the school's modernism art history class.
