This evening's Hatrick feature event will be decided early on the card.

Eight promising greyhounds will be loaded away into the 520m traps for their $7340 New Zealand Racing Series Novice final (NZRS) at 4.55pm (Race 2).

It was cut throat racing just to earn a place in this field following eight competitive 520m heats held on November 1.

It required a heat win just to make the final lineup.

NZRS series races are designed to reward the breeders of the placed runners in finals.

Half of the stake money on offer is reserved for the breeders of the placed greyhounds.

There are five different categories of NZRS series, with this evening's final being dedicated to chasers who are graded in the lowest two classes on the national grading system.

Idol Tom impressed in effortless manner as this Marcie Flipp-trained youngster strode to his 30.38s heat win.

It was his first taste of 520m racing and he can only improve from that experience.
Canterbury-trained greyhounds bookend the field.

Robin Wales applies the finishing touches to Dream Kay and this 30.73s heat winner is likely to relish jumping away from the ace trap for the first time in her career.

Opawa Rooster posted the slowest of the heat times when clocking 30.90s.

It would pay to overlook that, as this Dave and Jean Fahey-prepared chaser brings proven strong form from previous Addington 520m finals into this event.

He is provided with swooping claims from the eight trap.

Lisa Cole chose this series to debut two promising youngsters. Both recorded stylish heat wins.

Bigtime Tyson cleared out for his easy 30.76s heat win and he would have derived benefit from that outing.

Drawing trap two for this decider is also likely to assist him.

His litter brother Bigtime Forest looked set to record an easy heat win when he built a decent lead when racing down the back straight.

He got wobbles during the run home, scrapping in by a nose margin when clocking 30.69s.

Bigtime Forest also would have benefited from that experience.

On the other side of the experience coin is Opawa Shiloh, who is prepared locally by Brian Marsh. She will be contesting her 98th career race after her 30.66s heat victory.

Her post race podium claims here cannot be lightly dismissed.
