Wanganui Music Society presents Melodies from Paris: the Belle Époque, featuring French lyric soprano Laetitia Grimaldi accompanied by pianist Ammiel Bushakevitz.
Seldom do we see artists of this calibre including Whanganui on their tour. Laetitia and Ammiel have recently completed a performance tour of China and are about to tourAustralia and New Zealand, performing and holding masterclasses. In Whanganui they will perform a programme of songs from La Belle Époque, the period between 1870 and the beginning of World War I, a time when the arts flourished in Paris. It was retrospectively recognised as a period of peace and prosperity, during which salon music became popular and many operettas were performed. Composers of that time such as Debussy, Massenet, Franck, Saint-Saëns, Fauré and Ravel are still popular today. Laetitia and Ammiel will present the programme in the style of a Parisian salon concert, in conjunction with some solo piano pieces from Ammiel.
Laetitia Grimaldi was born in France and grew up in Spain and the UK. She has an impressive biography which includes prizes and festival invitations, and performances in many international opera productions. Laetitia tours internationally as an art song recitalist.
Ammiel Bushakevitz is Israeli by birth, and was raised in South Africa. He performs both as a piano soloist and vocal accompanist and is internationally recognised as an art song pianist, especially of Schubert's works.
Seats will be limited as the concert will be held in St Paul's Worship Centre, Cooks St, Whanganui on Friday, May 25 at 7.30pm. Tickets are $25 for adults and $20 for seniors, with concession for members ($15) and school students $5. Tickets are available at the Royal Whanganui Opera House and there will be limited door sales.
