Whanganui District Council is having an outing to Castlecliff Beach next week but it'll be work, not play.
The council's property and community services committee will meet at the Duncan Pavilion on Tuesday, April 2.
Progress Castlecliff organiser James Barron, working with deputy mayor Jenny Duncan, came up with the idea of holding a meeting at the Duncan Pavilion as a way to introduce councillors to his local community.
"Progress Castlecliff is pleased to offer councillors the opportunity to conduct our city's business in the iconic Duncan Pavilion," Barron said.
"It also affords Castlecliff locals the chance to observe our council at work in our beautiful beachside home."
Mayor Hamish McDouall has applauded the initiative from Progress Castlecliff.
"This is an example of 'taking democracy to the people'," McDouall said.
"We are demonstrating to community groups that the council supports open government."
The property and community services committee deals with facilities such as parks, sporting and recreational activities, the Town Centre and Castlecliff regeneration projects, waste minimisation and emergency management.
Tuesday's meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 1pm.
