Double world under-23 champion rowing coach Calvin Ferguson remains committed to Wanganui for this season, but offers for his services have been received, says wife Rachael. Union Boat Club coach Ferguson has been coaching for just three years but was on top of the world today after his New Zealand crewsStorm Uru (lightweight singles) and the lightweight pair of Graham Oberlin-Brown and Peter Taylor both took golds at the under-23 world championships in the Belgium city of Hazelwinkel. Ferguson phoned wife Rachael just after the medal ceremony for Uru (third last year under Ferguson's guidance). "He said everything just went to plan; the guys stuck to their plan ? and they went through," Mrs Ferguson said, "So he was over the moon." The build-up for Ferguson's crews was untroubled, and Uru came through the whole field to win by 3sec in 6min 55sec, while the pair set a world under-23 best time of 6min 19sec in also winning by 3sec. Mrs Ferguson reported the New Zealand coaching staff were out having a beer before climbing on the plane home ? and Ferguson is due back in Wanganui tomorrow afternoon at 4.30pm. Attention will not focus on Ferguson's growing coaching skills after eight New Zealand championship golds for Union in the past two years, world junior success third last year and today's two golds. "We are certainly dedicated to Wanganui this year, but it would be nice if Wanganui could come up with some money ? he's received offers from other places. "But we have our home here and we like the river." The New Zealand coxed four also won gold, making it three golds ? and a silver.
