Dancing on the Whanganui War Memorial Centre's sprung floor is equivalent to playing tennis at Wimbledon, Rivercity Dancesport Championships organiser Mark Glastonbury said - it's the perfect place to do it.

The building's floor has lots of give, which makes it easy on the feet. There were 115 couples who stepped it out during the championships on Saturday in 106 events.

Competitors were from all over the North Island, especially Palmerston North and Wellington. Their ages ranged from seven to the late seventies and they danced Ballroom, Latin American and New Vogue.

It's the third year that Glastonbury has organised the event, and this year he delegated the catering, sound and music to other people and groups.
