They're going to moove it, moove it.

Performers from Bulls School are a novice entry this weekend in the largest aerobic dance competition in the country for schools.

The team, Moovers and Groovers, are competing in the North Island regional finals of the Jump Jam contest in Tauranga on Saturday. There are 1850 dancers in 220 teams in the contest.

Moovers and Groovers has nine dancers and they are performing in the novice Year 7-8 section.

Coach Shannon Skelton-Morris held trials at the beginning of the year and the team has been practising since March.

Asked about their chances, Shannon said "it was really hard to tell.

"We are aiming for top three but as long as they perform well I'd be happy."

They will perform a three minute routine to the song Nicest Kids in Town from the film Hairspray.

Jump Jam is an aerobics fitness programme started 16 years ago by Brett Fairweather, a world aerobics champion.

He said it is now in 2000 schools around the country involving more than half a million children.

The contest is at the Baycourt Theatre in Tauranga.
