Wanganui Festival of Cricket organisers are hopeful a "number of clues" will let them track down the motorists responsible for tearing up Victoria Park's No4 pitch as it appears the offenders keep coming back for more.
Dilan Raj said a 4WD vehicle had been sighted trying to drive back onto the field on Friday and Saturday evening.
"They broke the council pole but they couldn't break the chain."
On the night of December 28, individuals did manage to break the chain and pulled burnouts on the field, breaking the sprinkler in the process.
Heavy rollers and donated sprinklers were used to help fix up the damage at the end of last week, before someone tried it again.
There has been increased security at the park and Raj said since the initial publicity some leads were being followed.
"It's sad to see people that can't see that an event helps them in the long run [because] it helps Wanganui," Raj said.
"To break into a place and spoil the enjoyment of young cricketers, and putting an event like this in jeopardy, it speaks volumes about their character, or lack of it.
