Bayers Marist conclusively wrapped up the 2014 Premier League with a six-wicket win over St Johns Tech at Victoria Park on Saturday.
While getting the bonus point for bowling Tech out for 161 should have been enough to confirm the title ahead of Property Brokers United, Marist completed the transactionwith Brett Cameron anchoring the top of the innings with 81 not out to wrap up the victory, reaching 163-4 in the 28th over.
Their win prevents United from claiming the triple crown after winning the one-day and T20 titles earlier in the summer.
For Tech, Dominic Lock made 48 but fell at 78-4, leading to a small collapse at 97-6.
Paul O'Callaghan made another good tailender's fight to be the last man to fall for 44 as Tech were dismissed in the 46th over.
Craig Thorpe (3-21 from 10 overs) and Mitchell Brett-Atkins (3-31 from 10) were the best of the Marist bowlers.
Cameron survived being dropped on a caught behind chance to carry his team through, the next best being Thorpe's 23.
Down at Memorial Park, an under-strength Matt Burke Engineering Marton Saracens lost by 27 runs to Wanganui Collegiate in a non-points game. Missing both Rayner brothers captain Dominic and Chris who were attending their sister's wedding, Marton bowled the schoolboys out for 192, with Bryant Galpin taking five wickets. In reply, the home team was bowled out for 165. In the final round this Saturday, United will play Marton, while Tech face Collegiate in a non-points match.
