Wanganui Collegiate School Development XI had a rough Sunday on their West Indies tour after a quick eight wicket loss to Combermere School at the Waterford ground in Barbados.

Collegiate were bowled out for 131 inside of 28 overs, with only Nate Lewis (42 from 66 balls) making an impression with the bat.

Combermere's Shakkae Marshall (4-17) took wickets at both ends of the innings, while Collegiate losing Charlie Greatbatch and Hadleigh O'Leary to run outs did not help their cause.

Greatbatch (10) and Shaun O'Leary (18) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.

In reply, the home side raced to 133-2 in just 14 overs, with their opening batsman S Brathwaite retiring when he reached his 100 in just 44 balls.

Braithwaite blasted 11 boundaries and eight sixes in his whirlwind innings.

Collegiate tried six bowlers with Joel Clark getting some stick with 52 taken from his five overs, while Ben Kelt was taken off after an over which cost 26.

Clark and O'Leary got the wickets.

Collegiate's next game is against Stephenson Academy at the Franklyn Stevenson Academy, overnight NZ time.

Meanwhile, Wanganui Collegiate 1st XI player and temporary member of Marton Saracens, Sam Sherriff, has been named in the Central Districts Under 17 team to contest the national tournament in Auckland, starting on Saturday.

The batsman Sherriff is the sole Whanganui player in the squad, alongside four from Taranaki, four from Nelson, two Hawke's Bay and one each from Manawatu and Horowhenua Kapiti.

The tournament runs to January 20.
