Car lovers are in for a treat with the Vintage Weekend Whanganui car rally bringing a wide range of vehicles to town.

Vintage cars, classic cars, hot rods, muscle cars, motorbikes and special interest vehicles will be on display in the Wheels on Victoria Avenue Car Show from 10am to 4pm this Saturday, January 20, in conjunction with the Rivercity Caboodle.

From noon to 4pm on Saturday is a competition for the most popular "veteran car", with the public choosing their favourite from the display for the People's Choice Award.

At 4.30pm on Saturday vehicles will start gathering at the Mitre 10 Mega carpark, setting out at 5.30pm on The Classic Cluster Cruise around the city.

The cruise finishes at 7pm at the Grand Hotel on the corner of Guyton and St Hill streets.

Cars will be out and about around the district on Sunday, January 21, for the Vintage Car Club National Veteran and Burma Rallies.

The vehicles will gather at Pakaitore/Moutoa Gardens from 8.30am and depart at 9am for the half-day rally.

They will return to the start point about 12.30pm and many will be parked up for the afternoon during the Riverside Shindig on the downtown riverbank between the Whanganui Riverboat Centre and the Tramshed.
