Community Education Wanganui are celebrating the artistic achievements of students with an exhibition at Edith Gallery.
100% Local will include work by students and tutors as a way to share the work with the community and encourage course participation.
The group show, which opens on Monday night will include workby students who have studied painting, upholstery, photography, stained glass and more.
There will also be a performance from music tutor Bruce Jellyman and the Any Instrument Goes band.
Nga Tawa College student Samantha Fleming is making an early start on adult education and she has been attending Painting, from Start to Finish classes tutored by Pauline Allomes.
"I bought the chair for my Ridgway St shop," she said.
She loved the shape and size of the antique chair but the original covering needed replacing.
Over three sessions, the chair was transformed with a new covering that includes box pleating around the base.
"I didn't find that part hard because I'm a dress maker but removing the old upholstery was very physically hard. The old tacks and staples were really hard to remove."
Amy Palleson has enjoyed Encaustic Art classes with Peter Wall and one of the pieces she has produced will be included in the exhibition.
Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, is a process of adding pigment to melted wax and applying it to wood or canvas.
"I have always wanted to give it a try and it is so much fun," she said.
100% Local opens at the Edith Gallery in Taupo Quay at 5.30pm on Monday, December 4.
